Spring Training is just around the corner, but teams are still hard at work improving their rosters around the margins. That includes the New York Yankees, who signed a talented pitcher to a minor league deal on Wednesday.

According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, the Yankees agreed to terms with Gray Fenter on a minors contract.

Drafted back in the seventh round of the 2015 MLB June Amateur Draft, Fenter previously split time with the Baltimore Orioles and San Francisco Giants during his minor league career. He's yet to rise above Double-A or notch an MLB appearance, however.

That said, the 27-year-old righty turned in one of the best campaigns of his young career in 2022. Pitching for the Lancaster Barnstormers in the Independent League, Fenter logged a 2.95 ERA in 21 1/3 innings pitched. It's a small sample size, but he also racked up 32 strikeouts while issuing just 6 walks.

While Fenter is starting to get a bit old for a prospect, his recent resurgence could be a harbinger for a productive 2023 campaign.
