While it may be the Washington Football Team's offense that needs the most help this offseason, they've also made some moves to shore up their already strong defense.
That included signing former Cincinnati Bengals cornerback William Jackson III. Details of Jackson's contract have emerged, and it looks like a pretty team-friendly deal.
William Jackson Washington Contract
Washington is set to pay Jackson $40.5 million over three years — an annual average value (AAV) of $13.5 million. For context, that ties him for the 11th highest AAV among active cornerback contracts.
That's a fair price for a 28-year-old who just ranked 20th among 121 qualifying cornerbacks in overall grade (71.4) from Pro Football Focus in 2020.
The structure of the deal is also favorable because starting in 2022 Washington can get out of the deal without incurring significant dead money. So if this signing proves to be a bust, it's not the kind of deal that is going to stay on the team's books even if they need to release Jackson as a cap casualty move.
This is exactly the kind of low-risk, high-reward deal that Washington fans want to see.
