Heading into the fantasy football playoffs, defensive scoring is way up this season. Through 14 weeks, the New England Patriots have already scored 197 fantasy points, outscoring last year's league-leading mark of 187 from the Chicago Bears. The Pittsburgh Steelers aren't far behind, with 161, and both teams rank in the top 40 for fantasy scoring across all positions.

Fantasy Football Playoffs Defense Rankings

Defensive production can be volatile though, and the top unit for a given week can depend heavily on the matchups each defense draws. With that in mind, here are our top 12 fantasy football defenses for Week 15 of the 2019 NFL season.

12. New York Giants vs Miami Dolphins

The New York Giants defense has been a brutal fantasy option this year, averaging 5.8 fantasy points per game (pending Monday's game), but this ranking reflects how good of a matchup the Miami Dolphins are. The Dolphins have ended 15.9 percent of their drives with a turnover (third-highest rate in the NFL) and have given up a sack on 9.6 percent of their drives (fourth highest). Accordingly, they've allowed the fourth-most fantasy points per game to opposing defenses.

11. Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Detroit Lions

10. Oakland Raiders vs Jacksonville Jaguars

9. Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins

8. New Orleans Saints vs Indianapolis Colts

7. Seattle Seahawks at Carolina Panthers

6. Kansas City Chiefs vs Denver Broncos

The Kansas City Chiefs defense ranks eighth in fantasy scoring at the position this season, and they've averaged 10.5 fantasy points per game over the last four. Drew Lock is off to an impressive start for the Denver Broncos, but this is still an offense that has allowed the league's eighth-highest sack rate on the year, and the Chiefs come into this game as 10-point home favorites on FanDuel Sportsbook.

5. Green Bay Packers vs Chicago Bears

4. Pittsburgh Steelers vs Buffalo Bills

3. San Francisco 49ers vs Atlanta Falcons

2. Baltimore Ravens vs New York Jets

No team is surrendering more fantasy points per game to defenses than the New York Jets. The Baltimore Ravens' defense has scored double-digit fantasy points in five of the last seven games, averaging 13.9 per contest in that stretch, and they should have no trouble taking advantage of the matchup.

1. New England Patriots at Cincinnati Bengals

The Patriots' defense has cooled down with some tough matchups recently, but taking on the Cincinnati Bengals should allow them to show off what made them such an elite unit early in the year. Cincinnati is another team allowing top-five fantasy production to opposing defenses, and the Bengals have allowed both a top-10 sack rate and top-five takeaway rate. Even after cooling off, the Pats have the NFL's second-highest takeaway rate and sixth-highest sack rate.
