Tigers Get Great News With Matthew Boyd's Solid Rehab Outing

Heading into the 2021 campaign, the expectations for the Detroit Tigers were relatively low. Despite the low expectations, this team has largely been a pleasant surprise.
While Detroit retains a record hovering around .500 and is a longshot to make the playoffs, the 2021 season can be seen as a success. What's been impressive is Detroit's success without one of their more reliable starting pitchers in Matthew Boyd.
Boyd's been sidelined since June 15 with nagging forearm/elbow discomfort. But, on Friday, the Tigers finally got some positive news surrounding Boyd's injury.

Matthew Boyd Injury Update
In his first rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo, the left-hander threw for two scoreless innings on Friday night, allowing two hits and striking out one. Boyd was held to just 20 pitches, so this will take some time to rev up his workload, but this can only been seen as positive news for the Tigers.
Through the first 2.5 months of the season, Boyd was off to the best start in his career. In 13 starts, Boyd worked with a 3.44 ERA and 1.203 WHIP, on pace for career-year averages. All in all, the 30-year-old lefty won't command ace recognition on a pitching staff, but he's an important depth piece.
Currently, the Tigers remain 10.0 games back of the AL's second Wild Card spot with a 57-61 record. FanDuel Sportsbook gives Detroit just +60000 odds to win the World Series.
