The 49ers Should Trade This Player While They Still Can
By Zach Brunner

The San Francisco 49ers were a team on a mission in 2019, proving all of the early season doubters wrong. While they came up short in the Super Bowl, they were one of the most dominant regular-season teams, and they are built to compete for a Super Bowl yet again this season.
However, they say it's tough to stay on top than it is to get there. One of the reasons is that some teams are too caught up in the present to prepare for the future. The 49ers could make a minor move in order to help them stay on top, if they look to trade wide receiver Dante Pettis while they still can.
I won’t sit here & say #49ers’ Dante Pettis is gonna be a future WR1. However, he’s shown signs in 2018 that he can play at a high level, something we didn’t see much of outside of a few plays in 2019.

Dante Pettis Trade
Pettis has been a frustrating player for Niners fans. A former second-round selection in the 2018 NFL Draft, Pettis was a younger prospect with a ton of potential, but things have not come to fruition on the field. In two seasons, he has started 11 of his 23 total games played, catching 38 passes for 576 yards and 7 touchdowns. He does not seem to be progressing in the 49ers offense, and the front office looks to agree with this sentiment, after drafting Brandon Aiyuk in the first round this April.
While Pettis is a cheap option at wide receiver, due to playing on his rookie contract still, he would likely be most valuable to the 49ers in a trade at this point. He is under contract until 2022, so another team that had Pettis high on their draft board in 2018 may feel like they could utilize his talents better to get the most out of him. They would have time to work with him too, since he has two years left on his deal.
The #49ers' offseason moves suggest a tough future for third-year wide receiver Dante Pettis, whose place on the roster is anything but guaranteed. (@nickkdimarco) https://t.co/RO5vhdR4tJ

The 49ers almost certainly won't be able to get a second-round pick for him, but they could still get decent return for a high potential player project. With Pettis not even ranking in the top-3 pass-catchers on the team, he is unlikely to make a big impact this season, so they should trade him before it's too late.
