Saints Get Update on Alvin Kamara Suspension Decision Timeline

One major question hanging over the New Orleans Saints prior to the start of the 2022 season is Alvin Kamara's playing status. The running back is facing felony battery charges from an altercation during Pro Bowl weekend, and many have thought a suspension could rule him out for a significant chunk of this year.

ESPN's Adam Schefter, though, has reported some big news on Kamara's potential punishment.

Schefter said "there's a real chance that the status of that case is not going to affect his availability this season." The NFL insider then followed up and acknowledged Kamara could be disciplined "at some point in time", but with the case's hearings being continually pushed back, Schefter stated it's "unlikely" a ruling comes out in time to impact Kamara's availability in 2022.

This is certainly big news for the Saints, as they were preparing to spend part of the 2022 campaign without their star RB. There is still a chance Kamara faces a suspension at some point, but he appears safe to hit the ground running in Week 1.

Despite missing time due to injuries in 2021, Kamara finished with 1,337 yards from scrimmage and 9 total TDs.

The Saints are currently 5.5-point favorites ahead of a Week 1 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons, according to NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
