The New Orleans Saints enter the 2021 NFL season without Drew Brees as the team's starting quarterback for the first time since 2005. It wouldn't be surprising to see the Saints change the offense a bit moving forward and that is exactly what one insider believes is going to happen.

The Athletic's Larry Holder reports that New Orleans head coach Sean Payton may rely heavily on his running backs early on in the season. The one-two punch of Alvin Kamara and Latavius Murray makes up one of the best backfields in the league as the two combined for 1,588 rushing yards last year.

Saints Rumors

The Saints wouldn't be the first team to become a run-first offense as the Cleveland Browns have been notably using a similar strategy for the last few seasons. However, it is rare given the pass-heavy type of game football has become in the NFL.

Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill are expected to battle it out during training camp for the starting quarterback role. Given their inexperience of leading this Saints squad, Kamara and Murray could see a lot more opportunities to contribute. They each averaged at least 4.9 yards per touch last season.

Overall, Kamara racked up 1,688 yards from scrimmage and totaled 83 receptions last season. He was a true dual-threat running back. Murray excelled as a ground and pound ball carrier as well, posting 656 rushing yards on 146 carries (4.5 yards per attempt).

The Saints' offense may look a bit different, but the team has the pieces in place to be a legitimate Super Bowl contender in 2021. New Orleans has odds set at +110 to make the playoffs and odds set at +2700 to win it all, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
