Robert Tonyan was looking like one of the breakout stars of the 2020 fantasy football season. Over a three-game stretch, the Green Bay Packers' tight end turned 14 targets into 173 yards and an absurd 5 touchdowns (Week 2 to 4).

He suffered an ankle injury in Week 6, however, and he was unable to practice on Thursday as a result. Tonyan is not a guarantee to be out there against the Houston Texans on Sunday, and his fantasy managers will likely want to have a contingency plan in place.

It will be key to monitor Tonyan's status throughout the week, as his practice status on Friday will likely determine his availability in Week 7. Even if he is out there, though, Tonyan is unlikely to be the player we saw from Week 2 to 4.

For one, Tonyan was unsustainably efficient in that stretch. He was averaging a touchdown reception on every 2.6 catches, which is a pace no one is capable of maintaining. His blowup also came when Davante Adams was sidelined, and there are few bigger target hogs in the NFL than Adams. Despite playing just two full games, Adams has racked up 30 targets from Aaron Rodgers.

That means Tonyan isn't a guarantee to maintain the 4.7 targets per game he was seeing while Adams was out, and averaging 4.7 targets per matchup does not scream every-week fantasy starter. We should note there's a chance he's earned himself a bigger role going forward, however.

He does draw a soft matchup against the Texans, who are the league's sixth-worst defense in Football Outsiders' DVOA metrics. But with his injury status and uncertain workload, it might be best to leave him on your bench take a wait-and-see approach with Tonyan this week.

If you're a Tonyan manager, you should be able to find a solid tight end streaming option this week.
