In what became a scenario all too familiar for New York Mets fans, the Texas Rangers kicked off their Spring Training schedule with new ace Jacob deGrom facing an injury issue.

deGrom, arguably the best starting pitcher in baseball, had a lengthy and tumultuous injury history during his time in New York. And now, he's kicking off his Rangers tenure with more issues.

According to the Dallas Morning News, deGrom is "likely to miss" the first full week of Spring Training contests in Rangers' camp, which takes place at Surprise Stadium in Surprise, AZ as part of the Cactus League.

According to the reports, deGrom experienced left side soreness earlier this week and the Rangers are playing the situation with a great deal of caution, opting to keep him pitching only in "more controlled" scrimmage settings as opposed to live games.

deGrom's departure from New York means the absence of two Cy Young award wins, a career 2.52 ERA mark and 10.9 strikeouts per nine innings. But, more importantly, his departure also means the absence of a starting pitcher who made at least 30 starts in just four of his nine-year career.

The Mets' fanbase can breathe a big sigh of relief that they no longer have to worry about how many games, weeks, or months deGrom will miss year-in and year-out.
