Pedro Grifol Responds to Benches-Clearing Incident Against Pirates

The Chicago White Sox's afternoon tilt against the Pittsburgh Pirates turned chaotic in a flash on Sunday. Benches cleared following an awkward play at the plate involving Oneil Cruz and Seby Zavala, with several members from both clubs needing to be held back from escalating the situation.
Ahead of Chicago's game on Monday, manager Pedro Grifol spoke about the incident against Pittsburgh.
"It’s always uncomfortable to see 26 guys on each club go out there and tangle," Pedro Grifol said of Sunday's bench clearer. "It’s one of those things that are unavoidable. Everybody has to go out there. That’s what teams do. They fight for each other and protect each other."

Grifol said it's "uncomfortable" when benches clear, but admitted it's "unavoidable" in times when teammates want to support one another. The manager noted protecting each other is just "what teams do."
It's great to see Grifol not reprimanding his team for leaving the bench on Sunday. Others would be more upset, but he simply accepts it as a reality in tense situations like the one that unfolded against the Pirates.
The White Sox will look to move past Sunday's scuffle with a win on Monday against the Minnesota Twins.
