The Carolina Panthers' quarterback situation has been a complete mess for a while now. The team has endured several high-profile failures at the position over the past few seasons, including Sam Darnold last year and Baker Mayfield this year.
Darnold hasn't been much of a factor this season due to injury, but that could change after the Panthers received an encouraging injury update on him ahead of Week 10.
Sam Darnold Injury Update
Darnold, who hasn't played at all this year after being relegated to backup status and going on the injured reserve with an ankle injury, was activated from the IR on Monday.
With Carolina in last place in the NFC South at 2-7 and searching for answers under center, Darnold could get some more looks during the second half now that he's healthy. Darnold has not started a game for the Panthers since last season, when he went 4-7 in his first season with the team.
It wouldn't be a surprise to see some sort of rotation of Mayfield, Darnold and P.J. Walker the rest of the way to see if any of them looks like a viable option for 2023. If not, Carolina will look to target one in the upcoming draft to help with its full-scale rebuild.
In the meantime, the Panthers will have Darnold on hand for their Thursday Night Football showdown against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 10. Carolina is currently listed as a 3-point home underdog on FanDuel Sportsbook's latest NFL odds.
