Myles Garrett On Pace to Set NFL Sack Record

Were it not for Aaron Donald, Myles Garrett would be known as the most dominant defensive player in the NFL. But the gap between those two forces of nature is closing, and it's closing fast.
Garrett currently boasts a league-best 9.0 sacks, beating Donald's 8.0. Not only does the former No. 1 overall pick have a chance to lead the league in sacks this year, he might also shatter the single-season sack record in the process.

Garrett's 9.0 sacks through 7 games have him on pace to finish the year with 21.0 sacks. That'd be an unbelievable season, though not a record-shattering one, as it would tie him for the fifth-best mark ever. The single-season sack record is held by Michael Strahan, who racked up 22.5 in 2001.
But Garrett has been incredible lately. Week 1 was the only game of the year that he didn't record a sack. It's hard to hold that against him too much, since the Browns were blown out by the Baltimore Ravens, 38-6.
Since then, however, Garrett's 9.0 sacks through 6 outings have him on a 16-game pace to finish the year with 24.0 sacks, which would set a record that might never be topped. As an added bonus, Garrett's 4 forced fumbles this season also means he's got the single-season forced fumbles record (10) within his sights as well.
While this pace may seem unsustainable, Cleveland's schedule is about to lighten up considerably. In fact, the Browns play some of the worst offensive lines in football down the stretch.
Cleveland has dates with both the New York Giants and Jets left on the schedule, and those are the league's two-worst pass-blocking teams, per Pro Football Focus. In fact, six the Browns' next nine opponents are currently bottom-12 pass-blocking teams, per PFF.
Myles Garrett is going to eat down the stretch. And he just might set a brand-new NFL record in the process.
