The 2022 MLB season has been a tough one for the Kansas City Royals and their fans. A 14-game deficit in the American League Wild Card race is just too much to overcome, likely resulting in their missing the playoffs for the seventh consecutive season.

With the postseason being a pipe dream, expect the Royals to be sellers as the MLB trade deadline approaches. One MLB insider is saying that Kansas City should prioritize trading away one player above their other trade chips: veteran left fielder Andrew Benintendi.

Andrew Benintendi Trade Rumors

It really shouldn't be a shock to see Benintendi as the Royals' top trade priority. The 28-year-old's name has been in the trade rumor mill as soon as the club started the season off poorly. The fact that he's a free agent at the end of the year makes him that much more of an attractive target for contenders.

Benintendi's 2022 performance is another reason why he's one of the top available names. While his three home runs in 79 games are abnormally low for his standards, the former Arkansas Razorback has 33 RBIs, 35 walks and a more-than-solid .316/.387/.404 slash line.

Above all else, Benintendi brings World Series experience to the table. He won the 2018 title with the Boston Red Sox, recording six hits and an RBI while batting .333 in 18 at-bats over five games. It wasn't the best World Series performance of all time, but it shows that he has the experience to be a difference-maker this fall.

The Milwaukee Brewers are one club that's been linked to the former Gold Glove winner, but any contending team would be smart to call the Royals about Benintendi's availability.
