Ever since gaining a consistent role in the 2018 NFL season, wideout Mike Williams has been nothing short of consistent for the Los Angeles Chargers. However, after reaching 1,000 receiving yards for the first time in 2019, he failed to put up the same numbers last season. Still, Williams' fantasy outlook has him looking like a safe pick with a high floor for fantasy owners this season.
Mike Williams Fantasy Outlook
Williams finished the 2020 season with 48 receptions for 756 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns. While those are decent numbers, they were still a bit underwhelming considering that he recorded 245 more yards on one fewer reception in 2019. Nevertheless, he's currently listed as WR51 on Fantasy Pros' Average Draft Position (ADP) rankings.
The thing about Williams is that even if he regressed a bit last year, he still has a relatively high floor compared to other wide receivers. He's made at least 43 receptions while putting up a minimum of 664 yards in each of the past three seasons.
Another thing that Williams has going for him is that the Chargers loved throwing the ball last season. They averaged 39.2 passing attempts (T-4th) and 270.6 yards (6th) per game in 2020, which means the volume should still be there for the 26-year-old.
The opposing defenses will probably devote most of their attention to Keenan Allen anyway, so that means that Williams should continue seeing the lesser coverage. The fact that Chargers QB Justin Herbert is only going to get better with age following an impressive rookie season also means that the quality of targets should also increase for all of Los Angeles' pass-catchers.
The Duel is currently listing Williams as WR41 ahead of the 2021 NFL season.
