Michael Gallup Fantasy Value Quietly Approaching Amari Cooper's With Edge in Volume
By Dan Israeli

Michael Gallup got off to a fast start for the Dallas Cowboys this season, catching a combined 13 balls for 226 yards in Weeks 1 and 2. A meniscus injury kept him out of action for two games, but Gallup picked up right where he left of in his Week 5 return, catching seven passes for 113 yards and his first touchdown of the season.

Gallup is now 27th in the NFL in receiving yards (339) despite missing two full games, and his 113 yards per game mark is actually first in the NFL. His teammate, Amari Cooper, is third in receiving yards per game (102.4) and Dallas now possesses arguably the best one-two WR punch in the league.
One key stat from Gallup's Week 5 performance was his target total (14), which matched Cooper's for the game. Cooper also had a monstrous performance in the loss to the Packers, catching 11 balls for 226 yards and one touchdown, continuing his dominant streak of performances at AT&T Stadium.
In the three games they have both been active for, Gallup actually has a slight edge in targets (29 to 28) over Cooper, though edges in yards (376 to 339) and TDs (three to one) give Cooper the much higher fantasy total in those contests. Still, with Dak Prescott not seeming to favor either one, Gallup's fantasy value has quietly started to climb into the same range as Cooper's.

The difference between Gallup and Cooper doesn't look to be nearly as stark as it seemed heading into the season. In addition to the overall volume when active, Gallup's 9.6 targets per game in 2019 exceed Cooper's 8.6, meaning the two receivers are probably more of a 1A and 1B tandem going forward.
Whether you own Cooper or Gallup in fantasy football, both are looking like elite options for the remainder of the season. Dallas has very exploitable matchups against the New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles coming up before going on bye in Week 8. Both are among the top 36 WRs in our Week 6 fantasy football rankings.
