The Quick Lane Bowl has been played since 2002. It has featured teams from the ACC, Big Ten and SEC conferences.

North Carolina has previously appeared four times at the Mayo Bowl, going 1-3. The Tar Heels last appearance came in 2013, where they defeated the Cincinnati Bearcats, 39-17.

South Carolina has just one previous Mayo Bowl appearance, losing 28-0 to the Virginia Cavaliers in 2018.
