Matt Ryan Hypes Up New Teammate in Latest Interview
The Atlanta Falcons are in a bit of an odd position. Playing in a loaded division with limited financial flexibility, the team couldn't make too many significant changes to its roster this offseason. And yet, the organization did find a way to bring in some talented new players.
One such player is former Baltimore Raven Hayden Hurst, who Matt Ryan spent some time hyping up in a recent interview.
Prior to last season, that wouldn't have exactly been a ringing endorsement. An older Tony Gonzales was probably the best tight end Ryan had played with before Austin Hooper broke out. But noting that Hurst appears more dynamic than Hooper is certainly significant given how dominant Hooper was in 2019.
Last season, Hooper put up 75 receptions for 787 yards in 13 games with the Falcons. He was just recently made the highest-paid tight end in the league by the Cleveland Browns.
Comments like Ryan's should always be taken with a grain of salt, but it certainly seems that he's confident Hurst can, at the very least, approximate the value Hooper had last season.
