The Chicago Bears still have a lot of question marks to sort out at the wide receiver position. Darnell Mooney is the clear-cut No. 1 option, but the depth behind him took a substantial hit during training camp. Head coach Matt Eberflus said Byron Pringle will be out for some time with a quad injury.

On the bright side, Eberflus remains hopeful that Pringle will be ready to go when the Bears kick off the season against the San Francisco 49ers on September 11. This is still brutal news, though. Quad injuries can be tough to come back from for players that regularly rely on their speed on the field.

Pringle set career-high marks across the board in 2021, hauling in 42 of his 60 targets for 568 yards and 5 touchdowns with the Kansas City Chiefs. The 28-year-old then agreed on a one-year deal worth $4.1 million with the Bears in the offseason to be a legitimate threat lining up in the slot.

Candidates to take over Pringle's role in the preseason include Velus Jones, N'Keal Harry, Dazz Newsome, Equanimeous St. Brown and Tajae Sharpe. Jones remains day-to-day with an unspecified injury, though, and Harry went down with an apparent leg issue during Saturday's practice.

The Bears will look to get healthy before their first of three preseason games takes place at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday, Aug. 13 against the Chiefs. Chicago lines up as a 3.5-point home favorite in that matchup with -170 odds on the moneyline, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. The total is set at 35 points.
