The Houston Astros were feeling upbeat on Tuesday when reports suggested that Jose Altuve's apparent hamstring injury wasn't as serious as his on-field reaction made it seem.

Unfortunately, those good feelings didn't last long.

On Wednesday, Houston placed their seven-time All-Star infielder on the 10-day injured list officially with a left hamstring strain.

Astros News

Manager Dusty Baker spoke to media following the incident on Monday night. He called it a "day-to-day" situation, and at the time, Astros fans hoped this meant Altuve would only miss a handful of games.

Now, he's going to miss nearly two weeks of action. The former MVP will miss at least nine games during this stretch, headlined by a three-game series against the upstart Toronto Blue Jays and a four-game set with division rival Texas Rangers.

Altuve was off to a slow start through his first nine games, slashing just .167/.268/.250. The entire team hasn't exactly found its groove, either, at just 6-5 to start the year in a tough AL West division. Hopefully Altuve can turn things around upon his return.

As it stands, the Astros sit at +1000 (3rd) in FanDuel Sportsbook's odds to win the 2022 World Series.
