General manager Joe Douglas has his eyes set on making the New York Jets relevant in the NFL world again. He's going to do whatever it takes, even if it doesn't happen right away. That's what he told the New York Post in a recent interview while throwing in a subtle shot at the New York Giants.

Douglas explained that his experience being a part of the Philadelphia Eagles organization prepared him for the toughness of NY fans. He sees the Big Apple as a city focused on the Knicks and Yankees right now. The goal is to eventually add the Jets to that mix and not the crosstown rival Giants.

It's essentially a nicer way of saying he wants to be better than the Giants in any way possible. Both teams are rebuilding and have combined to make the NFL Playoffs just twice in the last decade. More importantly, the Jets haven't made a Super Bowl appearance in over 50 years and counting (1968).

The Jets have posted a 13-36 record during Douglas' tenure, yet he remains confident that the pieces are in place to improve. Keep in mind the Jets have been widely praised for having an elite 2022 draft class that includes names like Ahmad Gardner, Garrett Wilson and Jermaine Johnson.

“I feel there’s talent on this roster, but there’s got to be that spark to build their confidence. … And we’ve got to go out and prove it.”
