Joe Douglas Has Awesome Quote About Sam Darnold's Future
The New York Jets made headlines this week when they traded former quarterback Sam Darnold to the Carolina Panthers. The former No. 3 overall pick was expected to lead the Jets for years to come, but GM Joe Douglas decided it was best for the team to head in another direction this offseason.
Douglas had a lot to say about Darnold in a recent interview and gave him a lot of praise for how he handled what were some tough times in New York. He explained how Darnold always worked hard and was dedicated to doing everything he could to help the team.

It's also notable to point out that Douglas remains a huge fan of Darnold despite him being on an opposing team now. It isn't often we see front office professionals say that they hope a player exceeds in the NFL even if it makes it them look bad.
“Whether I look bad or not [for trading Darnold], I could give two s—s about that. I know that he’s gonna have success. The timing didn’t really work out for him here. I root for good people, and that dude’s a good man, and he’s gonna do good things. I believe that.”- Joe Douglas
This is a rare NFL trade that seems to help out both sides. On one side, Darnold is only 23 years old and will have a chance to turn everything around playing in a potentially explosive Carolina offense.
On the other side, the Jets were able to acquire some draft capital and have a clean slate to work with heading into next season. They are projected to take BYU quarterback Zach Wilson with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft to become the team's starting quarterback.
