Jaycee Horn New Panthers Jersey Numbers Honors Kobe Bryant

Talented cornerback Jaycee Horn was scooped up quickly by the Carolina Panthers with the No. 8 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Horn should be a Day 1 starter and will immediately elevate the Panthers' secondary against the pass-happy offenses around the league.

Horn will wear No. 8 for the Panthers this season. He revealed that his number is a tribute to the late Kobe Bryant, who wore No. 8 up until the 2006-07 season. Bryant was also originally drafted by the Charlotte Hornets before the draft night trade that sent him to the Los Angeles Lakers.
The NFL's recent rule change regarding jerseys -- allowing even more positions, including defensive backs, to wear single-digit numbers -- has made Horn's Kobe tribute possible.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound corner gives Carolina a big-bodied defensive back who can match up with the top wideouts in the league. He recorded 23 pass defenses over his three seasons at South Carolina and earned a 78.4 grade from ProFootballFocus in 2020.
Being the son of a former NFL wideout in Joe Horn certainly gives the corner an added feel for the game that not many have, which could set him up for success even as a rookie.
