The Philadelphia Eagles are turning their franchise over to Jalen Hurts for the 2021 season. How long a leash he gets might be a different story, however. If this ProFootballFocus take is to be believed, that leash might not be too long.

PFF ranked all 32 starting quarterbacks heading into the 2021 campaign. Hurts' ranking is so low it can only be described as disrespectful.

PFF has Hurts ranked at No. 31, making him the second-worst starting quarterback in the league. He's only ahead of Drew Lock.

Hurts may not have started for too long, but he certainly proved he's not the second-worst starter in the league. In his first three starts, the rookie averaged 282.3 passing yards per game, accounting for 6 total touchdowns to 2 interceptions. The wheels fell off in his fourth start, but that was in one half against the Washington Football Team, so it's certainly excusable.

His 54.87% completion percentage in that stretch left a lot to be desired, but it makes a lot more sense when looking at the context. For the season, Hurts had an average depth of target (aDOT) of 10.1, which would've led all passers had he qualified. In other words, he was going deep early and often.

That translated to a good amount of success, especially when compared to what former starter Carson Wentz did. Hurts averaged 7.50 yards per attempt and 7.58 adjusted yards per attempt in that three game span – significantly better than what Wentz did with the same roster (6.0 Y/A; 5.2 AY/A).

Those figures also rank Hurts as a league-average QB, slotting in right below Lamar Jackson and right ahead of Ryan Fitzpatrick in terms of AY/A. Considering the weak supporting cast the rookie was saddled with, that's no small feat.

Mix in Hurts' rushing ability (79.3 rushing yards per game in his first three starts), and it's hard to comprehend how PFF views him as the second-worst starter in the league.

For whatever reason, Hurts has always had his doubters. And this is no different. He'll just have to prove them all wrong again in 2021.
