Jaire Alexander Gives Romeo Doubs Proper Rookie Treatment

It seems like every preseason there is a handful of surprising rookies that start making headlines at training camp. For the Green Bay Packers, that's been fourth-round draft pick Romeo Doubs.
Doubs has turned heads up at Packers camp, including a bit of hard-to-come-by praise from veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Every rookie will have moments to be humbled, it's almost a welcome to the NFL. Those moments are important too, because this is the most mentally and physically challenging sport on the planet. Don't worry Packers fans, Jaire Alexander has it covered.
In a recent report from Packers insider Matt Schneidman, Alexander explained how he's implementing the proper rookie treatment for the young, rising wide receiver from Nevada.

Another good line from Jaire Alexander on Romeo Doubs that didn’t make my story today:
— Matt Schneidman (@mattschneidman) August 10, 2022
“I haven’t been able to go against him the whole camp, so the other day, I was like, ‘Hold on now. You’ve got to go against the best before you can celebrate when you get a touchdown.’”
After a week of watching Doubs light up players on the second team for Green Bay's defense, Alexander knew it was time. He lined up against Doubs for a few plays on Monday, immediately locking the young wideout down on the first rep.
He even had this to say about the young rookie, "I haven't been able to go against him the whole cam, so the other day, I was like, 'Hold on now. You've got to go against the best before you can celebrate when you get a touchdown.'"

It all comes down to a learning experience, and making the team better. As the league's highest-paid cornerback, and a five-year NFL veteran, Alexander fully understands the end-goal.
“I’m just gonna give him that same level of intensity as soon as he gets here because he’s gonna need that and they’re gonna learn from that stuff and it’s intense for a moment. And I’m gonna talk some junk. But afterward, I let ’em know like, ‘Hey, we gonna need you. We gonna need you in the long run, so just keep learning. Keep studying film. Keep going against me. It’s nothing personal. It’s all love of the game. That’s it.'”

This is the exact type of leadership that helps build a championship roster. And no one better to give that lesson than one of the best cornerbacks in football.
Alexander and Doubs will get their first taste of live in-game action when Week 1 of the NFL preseason kicks off over the weekend. The Packers clash with the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday, and Green Bay enters that contest as +120 moneyline underdogs, according to NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
