The Cleveland Browns ended the 2022-23 season with more drama, as Jadeveon Clowney made critical comments on the team and their usage of Myles Garrett over him this year. Garrett responded to Clowney's unhappiness prior to Week 18, and the latter eventually was a healthy scratch for the regular-season finale.
Now Clowney has walked back his previous comments in a new statement.
Clowney apologized Friday afternoon, specifically mentioning Garrett and his family. He promised to the "learn and grow" from the outburst that led to his benching.
It's safe to say this likely is the end of the pass rusher's time in a Browns jersey. After Garrett campaigned for Clowney to return this season, the former No. 1 overall pick took a major step back in 2022. His sack total cratered from 9.0 in 2021 to just 2.0 this past year, and he generated only four tackles for loss after hitting 11 last campaign.
Now Clowney will search for a new home in free agency. He's already spent time with the Houston Texans, Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans and Browns during his nine-year career.
