Damien Williams was a late-season revelation for the Kansas City Chiefs and fantasy football players alike in 2018, after the team parted ways with star running back Kareem Hunt.

And with OTAs underway, it looks like Williams' production at the end of last season along with his early-season work has earned him the Chiefs' starting running back job.

Being named the team's starter should bump up Williams' fantasy draft stock as a potential bellcow in the KC backfield gives him RB1 upside. In five starts last year (including two playoff games), the tailback racked up 363 rushing yards, caught 28 passes for 210 receiving yards and scored eight total touchdowns. The Chiefs' offense didn't skip a beat with Williams as the team's starting running back and fantasy owners should expect more of the same in 2019.

Kansas City owns one of the most explosive offenses in the league, even if Tyreek Hill doesn't play this year, giving Williams the potential to end the season as a top-10 fantasy running back, now that he's officially atop of the Chiefs' depth chart.

With an average draft position (ADP) of No. 23 in standard leagues and No. 31 in PPR formats, according to the aggregate rankings on FantasyPros, Williams slides in as a very-late second or third-round pick. However, with this news, it's likely that the running back's draft stock keeps trending up toward the second round as we get closer to the kickoff of the 2019 NFL season.
