Daiyan Henley Scouting Report
Daiyan Henley was a disruptive force throughout the 2022 campaign. The versatile linebacker set career highs in total tackles (106) tackles for a loss (12.0) and sacks (4.0) while leading the Pac-12 with a trio of forced fumbles.
Henley does all the little things right that his future coaches will love. On top of having a good frame, he's a reliable tackler who knows how to break up passes as well. He thrives in coverage and can even keep up with wide receivers on close plays. He's also effective both in the pass rush and on special teams.
There are some concerns, though. Scouts likely aren't thrilled that he'll be 24 years old once the 2023 NFL season begins. He's only played linebacker for three seasons as well, so it remains to be seen just how high his ceiling is.
Daiyan Henley NFL Draft Prediction
There's no doubt that Henley is an interesting prospect. On one hand, his age will likely deter a few teams from drafting him. On the other, he's consistently improved over the last three seasons, alluding to the idea that his best might be yet to come.
I actually agree with ESPN and Pro Football Network that the Houston Texans are a great landing spot for Henley. The Texans own 12 picks ahead of the draft (including six in the first four rounds), meaning they have enough capital that they can afford to take the risk that comes with drafting Henley.
The Texans will likely finish near the bottom of the NFL again, meaning pressure won't be high on Henley to succeed out of the gate. He can take his time figuring out his role on defense. If it works out, it's a win for the Texans. If not, they have 11 other selections that could potentially turn out well.
Prediction: Houston Texans (Round 3, 73rd overall)
