The Cheez-It Bowl has been played since 1990 and has undergone a few name changes. It has featured teams from the ACC, Big 12, American, Big Ten, SEC and Pac-12 conferences.

Clemson has made three appearances in this bowl game. The Tigers most recently defeated the Oklahoma Sooners, 40-6, in the 2014 Cheez-It Bowl.

Iowa State has made one appearance in this bowl game. The Cyclones lost to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 33-9, in the 2019 Cheez-It Bowl.
