The Cleveland Browns came into the 2022 season looking at an uphill battle with their starting quarterback suspended for 11 games. The team's lackluster defense didn't help, and Browns finished in last place in the AFC North with a 7-10 record.
Immediately after the season wrapped, head coach Kevin Stefanski has decided there was a need for a philosophy change on the defensive side of the ball. Early Monday morning, NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported the Browns defensive coordinator Joe Woods had been relieved of his duties.
The Browns' offense actually improved its rankings from 2021 to 2022, but on defense, they went from No. 18 in opponent points per game and No. 5 in opponent yards per game to No. 20 and No. 14 in those same categories.
With Stefanski still in charge for now, he's on the lookout for a new defensive coordinator that can find a way to get this unit loaded with talent back on track.
The Browns now prepare for free agency and the NFL Draft, where they don't have a pick until the second round.
