Before the Denver Broncos figure out how to end their five-year playoff drought next season, they have to decide on their starting quarterback. Drew Lock was the team's starter last season, but a highly mediocre campaign left people wondering if he can be "the guy" going forward. As an insurance policy, the Broncos brought in veteran signal-caller Teddy Bridgewater to create some healthy competition at the position. All that's left is to decide who the job belongs to.

At this point in the offseason, it's still too hard to tell who the starter will be. FanDuel Sportsbook has given both Lock and Bridgewater equal odds to be the Broncos' Week 1 starting QB at +145.

Broncos Starter 2021

Once the Broncos begin their training camp in July, we should have a better idea of who's emerging as the No. 1 signal-caller. Until then, it's mostly just guesswork.

Lock completed just 57.3% of his passes in 2020 for 2,933 passing yards and 16 touchdowns to 15 interceptions. Those just aren't the kind of numbers that can take a team to the next level. Fortunately, Lock has been working on his game over the offseason.

He's been spending time with Hall-of-Fame quarterback Peyton Manning in recent months to improve after his sophomore slump. Considering how not many gunslingers can match Manning's talents or football IQ, the hope is that he can play a big role in turning Lock's career around.

Meanwhile, Bridgewater spent the last campaign as the starting QB for the Carolina Panthers. After starting in 15 games, he ended the season with career highs in passing yards (3,733), touchdowns (15) and completion percentage (69.1%). If he can replicate those numbers again, Bridgewater should be a solid option for Denver if Lock continues to regress.

Regardless of who the Week 1 starting quarterback is, the Broncos have some work ahead of them. Their +156 odds to make the playoffs, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, has them on the outside looking in. Improved QB play is what would push them into postseason contention.
