The New Orleans Saints are on track to again be Super Bowl contenders in 2020. They have been able to re-sign notable players and recruit more talent down to New Orleans this offseason, but one player they did lose was linebacker A.J. Klein, creating a need at the position.

While the Saints are likely to take a linebacker at some point in the draft, they could also add some depth in free agency. With that in mind, here are three of the best linebackers the Saints can still sign on the open market.

1. Clay Matthews

Clay Matthews out-performed expectations with the Los Angeles Rams last season. He totaled 8 sacks, but he was surprisingly released this offseason. Despite turning 34 in May, Matthews could be an excellent target for the team this offseason, and he shouldn't cost too much.

2. Mychal Kendricks

Many will be hesitant to sign Mychal Kendricks, due to him tearing his ACL at the end of the year, as he might not be ready for the start of the regular season. He started 14 games for the team last season, totaling 71 tackles and 3 sacks and 1 interception. He could be a great low-cost option for New Orleans, as the Saints don't have much cap space to work with.

3. Malcolm Smith

A veteran with experience at both inside and outside linebacker, Malcolm Smith could be another cheap signing that pays off for the Saints. Turning 31 before the season, Smith has bounced around in recent years, playing for four different teams over the past three seasons. However, he was once a solid linebacker, even winning Super Bowl XLVIII MVP.
