5 Former NFL 'Stars' Playing in the AAF

The season may only be two weeks old, but the Alliance of American Football (AAF) has been quite entertaining to the average football fan. And watching some former NFL "stars" attempting to play their way into another NFL contract for the 2019 NFL season makes for an excellent subplot as the season rolls along.

Here are five familiar names that are playing in the inaugural season of the AAF.

It's pretty hard to call a kicker a star, unless you're Justin Tucker or Adam Vinatieri, but Nick Folk is a pretty well-known player. Folk has a 10-year NFL career and has the longest field goal in the AAF's incredibly short history.

4. Christian Hackenberg, QB, Memphis Express

Christian Hackenberg has had a pretty rough start in the AAF's inaugural season and is clearly proving why he never played a single down in the NFL. The former second-round pick of the New York Jets has completed just 50 percent of his passes for 189 yards through the first two games of the AAF season. Unless he turns things around, he may end up getting benched for another former NFLer, Zach Mettenberger.

3. Zac Stacy, RB, Memphis Express

The Memphis Express are loaded with former NFL talent, but Zac Stacy is arguably the best of the bunch. The former Los Angeles Rams tailback is off to a great start in the AAF's inaugural campaign, rushing for 159 yards on 31 attempts and one touchdown. There's plenty of season left to play, but as long as he keeps it up, Stacy may find himself back on an NFL roster come this fall.

2. Denard Robinson, RB, Atlanta Legends

Denard Robinson entered the NFL as a player without a position. He showed promise at running back in 2014 when he rushed for 592 yards in nine starts for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Unfortunately, the former college quarterback hasn't seen that kind of success at the start of his AAF career, earning just six touches for eight total yards through the first two games of the season.

It's kind of fitting that a first-round NFL Draft bust ends up first on this list, but Trent Richardson is probably the biggest name in the AAF. As his AAF fantasy owners can tell you, Richardson hasn't had that great of a start to the season. However, there's still plenty of time for the former Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts back to turn things around and play his way into an NFL contract.
