3 Most Likely Mid-Season Trade Destinations for D'Angelo Russell

The Golden State Warriors made waves this offseason after acquiring point guard D'Angelo Russell from the Brooklyn Nets via a sign-and-trade deal. The 23-year-old point guard is coming off a career year in which he averaged 21.1 points per game (PPG) and 7.0 assists per game (APG) while nailing 36.9 percent of his 3-point attempts.
Offensively, Russell could flourish while playing in the same backcourt as Stephen Curry next season, but he's widely viewed as a temporary fix until Klay Thompson comes back from a torn ACL. With that in mind, there's a chance that Russell could get moved in favor of a more natural fit toward the trade deadline.
If Golden State decides to move on, here are three potential trade destinations for Russell.
3. Washington Wizards
The Washington Wizards don't have much talent outside of Bradley Beal. If Washington decides to rebuild, moving Beal to the Golden State Warriors could make a lot of sense. Beal projects as a seamless fit in Golden State, and Washington could get Russell and a package of young assets and picks as a return.
2. Orlando Magic
The Orlando Magic could definitely use some fresh blood at the point, and with a young core in Aaron Gordon, Jonathan Isaac and Mo Bamba firmly in place, Russell could be a great addition to an Orlando team on the rise. In addition to his excellent court vision, Russell would give the Magic a dangerous scoring threat in their backcourt, something they'll definitely need if they want to advance past the first round of the NBA Playoffs.
1. Minnesota Timberwolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves could really use a proven scorer in their backcourt, and striking a midseason deal for Russell could be just what doctor ordered. The 23-year-old point guard could be excellent running the pick and roll with Karl-Anthony Towns. Towns has already made an effort to recruit the Ohio State product on his Instagram, and Russell's shooting ability could help unlock Minnesota's offense.
