Valhalla Golf Club Key Stats

These picks stand out relative to their FanDuel daily fantasy golf salary. All stats cited below originate at datagolf and reference ranks relative to the field over the past 50 rounds unless otherwise noted. All betting odds come from the golf betting odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

PGA Championship Daily Fantasy Studs

Rory McIlroy ($12,100 | +700)

Scottie Scheffler is back in the field this week looking for his fifth win in his last six starts. At $13,200, his salary is $1,100 higher than the next closest golfer, Rory McIlroy.

The combination of that salary difference, Rory's win at the Wells Fargo Championship, and Valhalla's length present an interesting decision. Until we see this historically impressive run come to an end, Scheffler is always a good option, even at his sky-high salary -- but there are reasons to consider rolling with McIlroy.

At 7,609 yards, Valhalla would be the second-longest Par 71 in data golf's course table, behind only Torrey Pines' (South) setup for the 2021 U.S. Open. Distance and strokes gained: off the tee will be crucial, and Rory is first in the field in distance and third in strokes gained: off the tee. Scheffler is second in strokes gained: off the tee, thanks to his combination of accuracy (23rd) and distance (43rd). On distance and strokes gained: putting, Scheffler is behind McIlroy -- on everything else, he has the advantage.

Both golfers have been solid in recent PGA Championships -- back-to-back top-10s for McIlroy and two Top-5s, a Top-10. and a MC for Scheffler in his last four. Scheffler's performances in majors have been well documented, but McIlroy's are slightly overlooked due to his lack of wins. If you remove the Masters, he has finished top-10 in six consecutive majors and seven of his last eight.

All this to say, Scheffler is, of course, a viable option this week, but if you want to use the $1,100 salary to upgrade at other spots in your lineup, McIlroy's outlook is strong enough to do so.

Xander Schauffele ($11,400 | +1200)

Another week, another impressive performance without a win for Xander Schauffele, who finished second to McIlroy at the Wells Fargo Championship. Schauffele's lack of wins does little to change the fact that he remains an elite golfer who is capable of winning every tournament he enters.

He's second in the field in total strokes gained this week and is the only golfer in the field to rank inside the top 20 in every strokes gained category. He is fifth in strokes gained: approach and 27th in driving distance. He has finished T20 or better in eight consecutive majors and T20 or better in four of his last five PGA Championships. At the previously mentioned 2021 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines (South), Schauffele finished T7 and led the field in strokes gained: off the tee.

Schauffele's salary does not match his outlook. He has a lower salary than Jon Rahm ($11,900), Ludvig Aberg ($11,800), and Brooks Koepka ($11,600) but has better win odds than all of them.

  • Scottie Scheffler ($13,200 | +400)
  • Brooks Koepka ($11,600 | +1400)
  • Bryson DeChambeau ($10,500 | +2500)
  • Joaquin Niemann ($10,000 | +3000)

PGA Championship Daily Fantasy Mid-Range Plays

Justin Thomas ($9,800 | +5500)

To say that Justin Thomas' recent results at majors have been poor would be an understatement. Since winning the PGA Championship in 2022 he has missed four of seven cuts at majors and hasn't finished better than T37. There are reasons for optimism that he will turn things around this week.

Valhalla demands distance and excellent iron play, and Thomas has both. He is 23rd in the field in distance and 20th in strokes gained: approach. He enters this week in decent form, with finishes of T5 (RBC Heritage) and T21 (Wells Fargo Championship) in his last two events -- a solid bounce back from his missed cut at the 2024 Masters. Those results marked the first time Thomas has gained strokes in every category in consecutive events since his 2022 PGA Championship win, which came the week after a T5 finish at the AT&T Byron Nelson.

Thomas is eighth in the field in total strokes gained and is tied for the 16th-best win odds despite a salary that is tied for 21st.

Byeong Hun An ($9,400 | +6500)

Byeong Hun An enters this week in fine form, with finishes of T4 and 3 in his last two events. He finished T16 at the 2024 Masters, his second top-25 at a major in a row. In 13 starts this season, he has seven top-20s and four top-5s. An is sixth in the field in driving distance, 11th in strokes gained: off the tee, and 25th in total strokes gained. He has datagolf's sixth-best course fit this week.

An's weaknesses are his approach play (46th in strokes gained: approach) and putting (89th in strokes gained: putting), but he has been solid in both areas recently. He has gained strokes on approach in eight of his last nine events, including each of his last five. He has gained strokes putting in his last two events -- highlighted by gaining +2.15 strokes per round at the Wells Fargo Championship last week, the best mark in the field.

Others to Consider:

  • Sahith Theegala ($9,500 | +7000)
  • Sam Burns ($9,400 | +6000)
  • Si Woo Kim ($9,300 | +8000)

PGA Championship Daily Fantasy Value Plays

Russell Henley ($8,700 | +9000)

Russell Henley's distance is a concern this week -- he is 131st in the field in driving distance -- but he checks plenty of other boxes. Even while losing strokes off the tee at a similarly long Quail Hollow last week, Henley finished T10. He makes up for his lack of distance off the tee with excellent accuracy (11th in the field). He is 24th in strokes gained: approach, 23rd in strokes gained: around the greens, and 46th in strokes gained: putting. Add it all up, and he is 14th in total strokes gained -- an excellent mark for his salary.

In 11 starts this season, Henley has five top-20s and three top-5s. After a slow start to his season, Henley has been excellent in signature events with finishes of T24, T4, T12, and T10 in the last four. He's had mixed results at recent majors with two missed cuts, a T38, T4, and T14 in his last five.

Taylor Pendrith ($8,200 | +15000)

Taylor Pendrith isn't lacking in driving distance or confidence entering this week. Pendrith backed up his first career PGA Tour win at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson two weeks ago with a T10 finish at the Wells Fargo Championship on Sunday. He has now finished T11 or better in each of his last three individual events after missing the cut in five of his six events before that. Earlier in the season, he recorded top-10 finishes at the Farmers Insurance Open and the Sony Open in Hawaii.

Pendrith is 24th in the field in driving distance and 21st in strokes gained: putting, a solid combination. His approach play is a concern, 89th in the field this week, but his recent results have come while gaining just +0.05 and -0.20 strokes on approach per round the last two weeks. Historically, he has averaged slightly better approach play than that. He finished T29 in his PGA Championship debut last season.

Others to Consider:

  • Keith Mitchell ($8,400 | +17000)
  • Denny McCarthy ($8,100 | +11000)
  • Mackenzie Hughes ($7,500 | +22000)
