Vidanta Vallarta Course Key Stats

Mexico Open Daily Fantasy Targets

These picks stand out relative to their FanDuel daily fantasy golf salary. All stats cited below originate at datagolf and reference ranks relative to the field over the past 50 rounds unless otherwise noted.

Mexico Open Daily Fantasy Studs

Tony Finau ($12,300 | +800)

Last year’s winner and a runner-up in 2022, Tony Finau is looking to go back-to-back at a course he has dominated in his two appearances. He is second in the field in strokes gained: tee to green and fourth in both strokes gained: approach and total strokes gained.

He has finished T25 or better in three of his five events this season despite losing strokes with his putter in four of those five. The flat stick is a concern for Finau, but he finished second in 2022 to Jon Rahm while losing strokes putting, and his second-best strokes gained: putting performance in his last 25 starts came at this event last season.

In this week’s field, Finau is in a tier of his own in terms of win odds at +800, as outside of Nicolai Hojgaard (+1400), no other golfer has win odds shorter than +2200. Finau carries the highest salary in the field, but his win odds indicate that the salary gap should probably be greater than it is.

Nicolai Hojgaard ($11,800 | +1400)

Nicolai Hojgaard’s outlook, from a win odds to salary perspective, is almost as positive as Finau’s. After an excellent start to his 2024 season, he has cooled off slightly, with finishes of T31 and T39 in his last two events, but he is an excellent fit for this event. He finished T33 in his debut appearance last season.

Hojgaard ranks 1st in the field in total shots gained, 5th in distance, 7th in putting, and 14th in shots gained: approach. The two areas where he struggles, 104th in accuracy and 77th in shots gained: around the green, are downplayed at Vidanta. He has one of datagolf’s best course fits this week. He has gained strokes on approach in each of his last 7 events and 15 of his last 17.

Finau and Hojgaard are in a tier of their own at the top of this week’s field.

Others to Consider:

  • Thomas Detry ($11,100 | +2500)
  • Erik van Rooyen ($10,300 | +3300)
  • Aaron Rai ($10,000 | +5000)

Mexico Open Daily Fantasy Mid-Range Plays

Davis Thompson ($9,900 | +3300)

Davis Thompson has finished T21 or better in two of his last three events and has gained shots on approach in all four of his events this season. He ranks 45th or better in all strokes gained stats, including 8th in total strokes gained, 33rd in strokes gained: putting, and 30th strokes gained: tee to green. Thompson also ranks 20th in birdie or better rate and has just one missed cut in his last 10 events.

Michael Kim ($9,400 | +5500)

Michael Kim is coming off his first missed cut in his last eight events. During that stretch, he compiled four top-20 finishes, including two top-10s. He leads the field in birdie or better rate, ranks 10th in total strokes gained, 27th in strokes gained: putting, and 30th in strokes gained: approach. He finished T30 at this event last season.

Others to Consider:

  • Austin Eckroat ($9,600 | +6000)
  • Alejandro Tosti ($9,500 | +5500)
  • S.H. Kim ($9,000 | +6500)

Mexico Open Daily Fantasy Values

Parker Coody ($8,700 | +11000)

In his last event, Parker Coody finished T25 at the Farmers Insurance Open, his second made cut in three events this season. Putting is a concern for Coody, who ranks 114th in the field in strokes gained: putting, but he has been solid tee to green. He ranks 5th in strokes gained: tee to green, 13th in strokes gained: approach, 12th in strokes gained: off the tee, and is 10th in the field in distance. He also ranks 84th in birdie or better rate, slightly above the tour average.

Sami Valimaki ($8,500 | +11000)

After two missed cuts to start his 2024 season, Sami Valimaki has made the cut in consecutive events, highlighted by finishing T6 (+1.44 strokes gained per round) in strokes gained: approach at the WM Phoenix Open, his most recent event. Longer approach shots are common at TPC Scottsdale, and they will be common this week at Vidanta, as well. The course has an above-average number of approach shots from all distances above 175 yards.

Valimaki ranks 26th in the field in accuracy, 35th in strokes gained: approach, 50th in distance, 61st in total strokes gained, and 69th in strokes gained: putting. His weakness in strokes gained: around the green (99th) shouldn't hurt him as much this week.

Others to Consider:

  • Joseph Bramlett ($8,700 | +10000)
  • Carson Young ($8,600 | +9000)
  • Justin Lower ($7,600 | +17000)
  • Trace Crowe ($7,600 | +30000)
