Bruins vs. Panthers Game 3 Analysis

Through two games, the goal differential is favoring the Panthers 7-6 overall after a 3-1 win by Boston in Game 1 and a 6-3 rally by the Panthers in Game 2.

The expected goal race is 7.67-5.73 in favor of the Panthers, according to NaturalStatTrick. This is despite the Bruins leading in Corsi For (percentage of shots taken) slightly at 50.8%.

Florida is leading in high-danger Corsi attempts (24 to 22) and in Fenwick attempts (19 to 16, which adjusts for blocked shots).

However, Panthers goalie Alex Lyon has let through 4 high-danger goals on 16 unblocked attempts.

Linus Ullmark has stopped 17 of 19 unblocked high-danger shots, but Jeremy Swayman was in the starters' crease ahead of Game 3. Swayman is 24-6-4 on the season but has a goals saved above average mark of +15.27, compared to Ullmark's +48.54 for the regular season.

The expected goal data has this game a lot closer than the overall Stanley Cup odds suggest (with the Bruins +350 to win the Cup based on the NHL odds at FanDuel Sportsbook and the Panthers +3000).

The odds and game projections do point to the Bruins getting back the series lead on Friday, but we shouldn't be surprised if Game 3 and the series stay close.
