3 FanDuel MLB DFS Stacks for Tuesday 5/14/24

Stacking is an integral part of daily fantasy baseball. Correlation drives upside, giving your lineups a slate-winning ceiling when your stacks explode.

This piece will do the digging and the dirty work each day to determine which stacks are worth rostering on FanDuel's main slate. While we want upside, we also need to factor in game theory, especially in a sport as random as baseball.

The MLB DFS heat map at numberFire is a quick way to get a feel for the overall slate and which offenses are in a good spot. You can also check out our daily fantasy baseball projections -- which are powered by numberFire -- to identify the slate's best bats.

Let's look at the top stacks for today's main slate.

MLB DFS Stacks

Milwaukee Brewers

Implied Total: 4.63 | Opposing Pitcher: Quinn Priester

Pittsburgh Pirates former first-round pick Quinn Priester hasn't figured it out yet in the pros. While his 3.86 ERA makes it seem like he's taken a bit of a step forward from his rough 2023 Majors debut (7.74 ERA), he's still flirting with danger. The second-year righty has a 6.85 FIP and 1.43 WHIP to go with an elevated 6.3% home run rate and a sub-standard 12.6% strikeout rate. He's getting hit, isn't striking out batters, and is giving up home runs -- but it hasn't all converted onto the scoreboard ... yet.

He could have a tough time up against the Milwaukee Brewers tonight. The Brewers rank third-best against right-handers in each of wOBA (.341), SLG (.431) and wRC+ (130). Against right-handers, they rank right alongside teams we often love to stack, such as the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees, so they're certainly worth making a stack around on Tuesday.

Second-year infielder Brice Turang ($3,100) has been promoted to Milwaukee's leadoff spot. He's batting .298 on the season and has already stolen 16 bases, the third-most in the Majors. He is projected for 11.2 FanDuel points in this one and should make pretty much any Brewers stack.

Behind him, the Brewers' power hitting trio of William Contreras ($4,000), Christian Yelich ($3,900) and Willy Adames ($3,600) are all worth consideration. They're each projected for at least 11.8 FanDuel points while Contreras' 13.3-point projection is the 11th-highest of any batter on the slate.

Rhys Hoskins ($3,300) actually leads the team in home runs this season with 9 and often hits fifth. Unfortunately, he left last night's game with a hamstring injury and seems to be uncertain for today's game. The upside is there if he is cleared to play. He's projected for a strong 12.9 FanDuel points if he can suit up.

If Hoskins can't go, expect Jake Bauers ($2,900) to start at first base. Bauers is working to a career-best .802 OPS in his first season with the Brewers and has 4 home runs and 4 stolen bases in 92 plate appearances. He's got two steals and two jacks over his last four games, so he's been hot at the plate recently. His +500 odds to hit a home run rank third-shortest on the team, trailing Contreras' +430 odds and Adames' +480 odds.

Houston Astros

Implied Total: 4.80 | Opposing Pitcher: JP Sears

The Oakland Athletics' offense may be having a fun season, but their pitching is still straggling behind -- especially amongst their starting rotation. They'll call upon left-hander JP Sears and his 4.20 ERA for a start tonight.

Among qualified starters, Sears' 4.91 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) ranks 11th-worst in the Majors. He's striking out opposing batters at a 21st-percentile 17.8% rate and has given up 5 home runs in his last three starts. The Astros could pile on runs against him in tonight's outing.

Kyle Tucker has been too hot at the plate to ignore, even with his elevated $4,200 salary. He's projected for 14.9 FanDuel points tonight, trailing only Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts on Tuesday's main slate. His 13 home runs and .993 OPS lead the American League. While he bats left-handed, Tucker actually has a higher career SLG (.530) against LHPs than he does against RHPs (.503). He's slugging for a .648 mark versus southpaws this year.

As impressive as Tucker has been this year, teammate Jeremy Pena ($3,300) has actually been better against lefties so far. His .456 wOBA and .652 SLG against left-handed pitchers leads the Astros' qualified hitters and sets him up for a strong night against Sears. According to numberFire's model, Pena is the best point-per-dollar value play on Houston for tonight's slate.

Yordan Alvarez ($3,700) and Jose Altuve ($3,800) are projected for strong nights, as well, at forecasts of 14.6 and 14.4 FanDuel points, respectively. Their numbers against lefties this year -- Altuve's in particular -- haven't been as impressive as Tucker's or Pena's, but both players have historically crushed left-handed pitching.

Alvarez has +300 odds to hit a homer in this one, the fourth-shortest of any batters going on this Dinger Tuesday. Only Aaron Judge (+255), Kyle Schwarber (+280) and Adolis Garcia (+285) have shorter odds, so he's in pretty elite company for today's slate.

Finally, it seems like Alex Bregman ($2,500) is getting back on track after a slow start to the year. Over the last week, he has two home runs -- both coming yesterday -- and a .882 OPS after struggling to a .557 OPS mark through March and April. His FanDuel salary hasn't quite caught up to his recent production, making him an interesting value play against the A's, although last night's two-homer game will surely make him popular.

Cleveland Guardians

Implied Total: 4.39 | Opposing Pitcher: Jack Leiter

Things have not gone according to plan for Texas Rangers top pitching prospect Jack Leiter. Though he had been dominating at the Triple-A level to the tune of a 2.84 ERA and a .908 WHIP, he has been getting crushed since his Major League call-up. Batters facing Leiter have recorded a 1.147 OPS against him despite friendly matchups -- he essentially turned the A's and the Detroit Tigers into All-Star caliber batters in his first two starts of the season.

In addition to a 12.92 ERA and a 2.35 WHIP, Leiter has given up home runs at a 4.8% rate and is striking out just 14.3% percent of the batters he's faced. Opposing batters are barreling him up at an alarming 15.2% rate. His underlying 6.14 FIP and 7.61 xERA don't look much better. The only saving grace here is that his 2024 MLB sample is a tiny 7 2/3 frames.

In short, you want Cleveland Guardians hitters in your lineups tonight.

Jose Ramirez ($4,000) is on fire right now and is projected for a team-high 13.1 FanDuel points. He's batting .308 with a .956 OPS over the last week, notching 2 home runs, 9 RBI, and 2 stolen bases in just 29 plate appearances. He could add to those tallies against Leiter tonight.

Josh Naylor ($3,800) is having his best season yet and leads the team with 11 home runs on the campaign. The lefty-hitter walks as often as he strikes out against right-handed pitchers and has a career-best .899 OPS on the season. He and Ramirez have combined for 67 RBI in 2024, comprising over a third of Cleveland's total runs batted in this season.

The 2024 season hasn't been especially kind to Andres Gimenez ($3,000), and he's batting for a .130 average over the last week. While Gimenez hasn't been having a great campaign, a matchup against Leiter could be exactly what he needs to get back on track. He usually bats second, making him a solid option at his reasonable salary.

The Guardians don't seem to have a set leadoff hitter with Steven Kwan on the injured list, so they could go with any of Estevan Florial ($2,400), Tyler Freeman ($3,000) or Brayan Rocchio ($2,500) there today. Florial could be interesting tonight even if they go with another leadoff batter. While he hasn't seen a ton of production this year, he's rocking a surprising 12% barrel rate and hit 28 home runs in the Minors a season ago. With a $2,400 salary, Florial is an intriguing option.
