Red Sox News: Boston Calling Up Top Pitching Prospect Tanner Houck

After an exciting MLB All-Star Break, all eyes turn on the second half of the baseball season, which kicks off with an exciting four-game series between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees.
Heading into that series, the Red Sox will get some reinforcements on the pitching staff in the form of top prospect Tanner Houck. Boston is calling up their No. 6 overall prospect, according to MLB.com rankings, prior to Thursday night's game.

Houck will begin his second big-league stint this season. He had previously began the season on the Opening Day roster thanks to an Eduardo Rodriguez injury. It's unclear if Houck will operate as a starter or reliever with this go-around and the Red Sox have yet to announce a corresponding move.
The 25-year-old righty possesses an electric arm and will look to build upon some early success in the big leagues. So far, Houck has seen short stints during both the 2020 and 2021 MLB seasons while pitching to a 1.98 ERA through 27.1 big league innings pitched.
The Red Sox drafted Houck with the No. 24 overall pick in 2017 out of the University of Missouri. He's 0-2 with a 5.14 ERA across six starts with Triple-A Worcester this season.
Currently, Boston sits atop the AL East with a 55-36 overall record and owns the sixth-best odds (+1200) to win the 2021 World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook.
