Running back Duke Johnson came out of nowhere to lead the Miami Dolphins in carries during their Week 15 win over the New York Jets. His presence in the backfield threatens the fantasy outlook of presumed starter Myles Gaskin heading into a Week 16 matchup against the New Orleans Saints.

Myles Gaskin Fantasy Outlook

Gaskin played in just 37% of the offensive snaps on Sunday and ended the game with 54 rushing yards on 10 carries. Keep in mind he was only activated off the COVID-19 list on Saturday. While it's possible that he was not completely healthy, Gaskin's performance was simply not good enough.

Meanwhile, Johnson racked up 127 total yards on 23 touches and scored 2 touchdowns. He was the only ball-carrier to receive any red zone touches and played in 58% of the offensive snaps. It's not surprising to hear that the coaching staff wants to keep the seventh-year pro involved moving forward.

This is a tough situation for fantasy managers rostering Gaskin. No one truly knows what role he will play on Sunday and he draws a tough matchup as well. The Saints have posted the best rush defense DVOA rating in the NFL and are allowing the second-fewest PPR fantasy points to opposing RBs.

When it comes down to it, there is a lot of risk involved with starting either Gaskin or Johnson in your FLEX spot this week. Each running back could see double-digit touches or be taken out of the game plan entirely. It would be best to avoid this backfield given you have safer options available.
