Ole Miss vs Texas Prediction and Picks
Texas -3.5 (-102)
Spread
This is a good buy-low spot for Texas despite the Longhorns entering Saturday on a two-game losing streak. Their offense has been inconsistent, but the defense is allowing only 272.5 total yards per game, including 166.2 through the air and 106.3 on the ground. Texas is also surrendering just 17.8 points per game.
That's a significant test for an Ole Miss offense averaging 37.5 points and 444.5 yards per game. Trinidad Chambliss has been excellent, throwing for 1,676 yards with 14 touchdowns and 4 interceptions, but Texas is easily one of the best defenses he's faced.
The other side of the matchup is where I think Texas can do enough to create separation. Ole Miss is giving up 390.0 total yards per game and ranks 104th nationally in passing yards allowed per game (236.5). The Rebels are also allowing opponents to convert 44.0% of their third downs. I know it’s tough to have faith in the Texas offense right now, but this is a great matchup for them.
Texas hasn't covered often this season (1-5 ATS), but its underlying defensive performance combined with a favorable matchup for the offense makes the Longhorns appealing as a short home favorite.
Arch Manning Over 238.5 Passing Yards (-114)
Arch Manning - Passing Yds
Manning hasn't produced the season many expected, totaling 1,295 passing yards and 11 touchdowns against 5 interceptions through six games. He's also coming off a 173-yard performance against Florida, and he's exceeded 201 passing yards just once over his past five outings.
That recent production makes this a somewhat uncomfortable over, but the matchup gives Manning a good opportunity to rebound. Ole Miss is allowing 236.5 passing yards per game, ranking 104th nationally, while opponents have generated 390.0 total yards per contest against the Rebels.
Texas should also have reason to lean on the passing game rather than trying to grind away on the ground. Ole Miss has allowed 153.5 rushing yards per game, but the Longhorns are averaging only 134.5 rushing yards per contest themselves so Texas may not be able to fully take advantage of the Rebels’ run D.
With Texas favored in a game carrying a total in the low-to-mid 50s, this sets up as one of Manning's better opportunities to get back on track.
College Football Betting FAQ
What are the most common college football bets?
The most common college football bets are the point spread, moneyline, and game total. Bettors can also wager on player props, team totals, alternate spreads, and futures such as conference champions or the national championship winner.
How does the point spread work in college football betting?
The point spread gives one team a handicap to create a more even betting market. If a team is listed at -7.5, it must win by at least eight points for a spread bet on that team to cash. A team listed at +7.5 can lose by seven points or fewer — or win outright — and still cover the spread.
What does over/under mean in college football?
An over/under, also called a game total, is a wager on the combined number of points scored by both teams. Bettors can choose whether the final score will finish over or under the sportsbook's posted total.
What should you consider before betting on college football?
Matchups, quarterback play, offensive and defensive efficiency, injuries, pace, home-field advantage, and coaching tendencies can all be important.
