NHL Daily Fantasy Picks and Helper: Tuesday 2/13/24

NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.

Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters.

Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.

Using our projections -- which are powered by numberFire -- as a guide, let's take a look at today's slate to find a goalie, some stacks, and value plays for your NHL DFS lineups on FanDuel.

NHL DFS Picks

Goalie to Target

David Rittich, Kings ($7,900)

Not many people had David Rittich ($7,900) as the savior for the Los Angeles Kings this season, but it's starting to play out that way.

Rittich has stepped up into the starter's role for LA and has done better than anyone could have realistically expected. He is second in the NHL in goals saved above expected (GSAx) per 60 minutes for goalies who have played a minimum of 10 games.

His last game was a shutout against the Edmonton Oilers, so he should be able to handle any test he faces. Tonight, that test will come from the Buffalo Sabres. Buffalo scores the seventh-fewest goals per game in the league while also averaging the seventh-fewest high-danger chances and ninth-fewest scoring chances per 60 minutes, via Natural Stat Trick.

Rittich remains under the $8,000 salary tier despite back-to-back games with at least 36 FanDuel points. This makes him a nice value in a matchup that shouldn't make us too scared.

Stacks

Vancouver Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks continue to be one of the best teams in the NHL. They lead the league in goals per game while sitting on top of the standings.

The trade to acquire Elias Lindholm ($6,600) made the Canucks an easier team to stack. His salary hasn't really reflected that he's changed teams and is now playing with J.T. Miller ($8,800) and Brock Boeser ($7,700). Miller is sixth in the league in points while Boeser is eighth in goals. These three all link up on the power play, as well.

Vancouver is on the road tonight against the Chicago Blackhawks. Chicago sits at the bottom of the league in the standings and ranks in the bottom 10 in nearly every defensive metric. That includes allowing the fourth-most goals and second-most high-danger chances per 60 minutes.

The Canucks have a 3.34 implied team total tonight in a game with a 5.5 over/under. This line is one of the top stacks on the board given their total salary, so I'll definitely try to squeeze it into my lineups tonight.

Ottawa Senators

It may have been lost in the aftermath of the game on Saturday, but the Ottawa Senators did have an impressive win against the Toronto Maple Leafs. They'll face a much easier opponent tonight, and it makes their players attractive for stacking.

The first line is headlined by the team's leading goal scorer, Brady Tkachuk ($8,600). He has 22 goals this season and is on pace to beat his career-high 35 from last season. The second-leading scorer on Ottawa is Drake Batherson ($6,600) with 17 goals. Josh Norris ($6,200) hasn't been as lethal as a goal scorer since returning from injury but does still have 13 goals.

Ottawa will face the Columbus Blue Jackets at home. Columbus allows the second-most goals per game and will be starting Daniil Tarasov in net. Tarasov has the worst GSAx per 60 minutes in the league for goalies who have played at least 10 games.

There are a lot of the best offenses in the NHL on tonight's slate, and Ottawa has the third-highest team total out of any of them. That speaks to how good this matchup is, and this line is a good one to get your Ottawa pieces.

Montreal Canadiens

We're going with another Canadian team to round out a trio of stacks, and that would be the Montreal Canadiens.

Like Ottawa, they may not be a playoff contender, but Montreal's top line has been on fire recently. Nick Suzuki ($7,300) has four goals in his last three games and points in his last seven. Cole Caufield ($7,200) had a 10-game point streak snapped last game. Juraj Slafkovsky ($4,800) has been breaking through of late, as well, with four goals in his last four games.

With full correlation on Montreal's top power play, this line has a lot of upside. That's especially true against the Anaheim Ducks, who have the 10th-worst penalty kill and allow the seventh-most goals per game.

This stack will certainly get overlooked on an 11-game slate, so it's one of my favorites on the board.

Value Skaters

Tyson Barrie, D, Predators ($3,600)

A year ago, Tyson Barrie ($3,600) was manning the blueline for one of the best power plays we had ever seen. Then, he got moved at the trade deadline, and things haven't been exactly going as planned for him.

His stock has fallen during his time with the Nashville Predators, but Barrie still has upside. He's playing with talented players on the first power play, like Filip Forsberg, Roman Josi and Ryan O'Reilly.

The Predators will play the New Jersey Devils, who are on the second night of a back-to-back. NJ has struggled defensively all season, allowing the sixth-most goals per game this season.

It's hard to find a defenseman with more upside at around the minimum salary than Barrie has tonight.

Nils Hoglander, W, Canucks ($3,800)

We know the Canucks are in a great spot tonight, so we can target a player who isn't in that stack for lineups, as well.

Nils Hoglander ($3,800) has been promoted to play on a line with Elias Pettersson. Since joining this line, Hoglander has scored in each of his last two games.

He's always been a player with offensive talent, so getting him time in the top-six forward group is key. With the matchup tonight, he's definitely a wing I'd take a shot on if I need salary relief.
