MLB Betting: 3 Best Player Prop Bets for Monday 8/12/24

Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing our MLB projections -- which are powered by numberFire -- as a guide, here are some MLB player props bets that look appealing via the MLB odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Best MLB Player Props Today

Corey Seager To Record An RBI (+115)

Brayan Bello will take the mound opposite the Texas Rangers tonight.

Bello has never been known to pitch a shoutout and owns a 5.16 ERA, 4.76 xERA, 3.74 xFIP, and 1.45 WHIP on the season. He's coughed up at least one home run in six straight games and has been particularly poor against lefties. Bello has allowed this handedness a .370 wOBA, .509 SLG, 1.96 home runs per nine innings, and a 34.3% fly-ball rate.

Enter Texas lefty Corey Seager, who is in a good spot to mash against Bello.

Across the last 30 days of play, Seager has shined with a 17.8% barrel rate, 60.3% hard-hit rate, 42.5% fly-ball rate, and .261 ISO. He's also attacked righties with a .557 SLG, 156 wRC+, and 45.0% fly-ball rate this year.

Batting second, Seager is in an advantageous spot to knock in a run for a Rangers team that is -111 to go over 4.5 runs. He leads the team in RBIs and can exploit Bello's weakness against lefties.

William Contreras To Record 2+ Bases (+120)

Following a red-hot start to the season, William Contreras cooled off in June and July, going 43-for-187 (.229 BA) at the plate in that two-month span.

But Contreras is heating up once again and has notched at least two bases in four of his last eight games. He's also managed a .302 ISO and 53.3% hard-hit rate across the last 14 days and a 12.1% barrel rate over the last 30 days of play.

He's getting his swing and power back just in time for a matchup against Clayton Kershaw.

Kershaw has pitched only three games since returning from a shoulder operation. He's been fine but is not the Kershaw of yesteryear. He's allowed righties to go 13-for-42 (.310 BA) at the dish and has been striking this handedness out at just a 17.4% rate.

I'm even more interested in what Contreras could do against a lefty. This season, he owns a scorching .324 BA against southpaws and has hit for extra bases in 10.2% of his at-bats against this handedness. Everything is clicking at the right time, so I'll back Milwaukee's catcher to notch a pair of bases tonight.

Sonny Gray Over 6.5 Strikeouts (+102)

Sonny Gray comes into the night with a 30.4% strikeout rate (fifth-best in MLB) and strikes out 10.96 batters per nine innings.

He's struck out at least 6 batters in 18 out of 21 starts (85.7% of contests) and has exceeded 6.5 Ks in 10 out of 21 games (47.6% of contests).

With +102 odds (49.5% implied probability) on this prop, I'm willing to back Gray's strikeout over, particularly in this matchup against the Cincinnati Reds.

The Reds come in with a .230 BA (25th), .305 wOBA (18th), and 90 wRC+ (25th) versus right-handed pitchers. Gray is known to reach or complete the seventh inning, and Cincinnati's poor offense could help him get there tonight, leaving more room for strikeout opportunities.

More importantly, the Reds strike out at a 24.9% rate (fourth-highest in MLB) against righties. Gray has pitched 12 games against teams that rank in the top 12 of K% opposite righties. In this split, he notched 6 strikeouts in all but one game and cleared 6.5 strikeouts in half of those games.
