MLB DFS Picks

Pitcher Breakdown

It's not a great slate for pitching, and there's no one I feel really great about. At the top of the salary pool, Robbie Ray ($10,100) is worth a look.

The veteran lefty has been lights out since coming off the IL, pitching to a 3.39 SIERA, 33.3% K rate and 15.4% swinging-strike rate over 20 1/3 innings. He got up to 105 pitches last time out and faces an Atlanta Braves offense whose active roster owns a 27.6% strikeout rate in the second half. One word of warning: the wind is blowing straight out in San Fran today.

Bryan Woo ($9,400) has a friendly road date with the Detroit Tigers, a team we've been picking on all season. Woo is usually better in real life than DFS due to meh strikeout numbers, but he fanned seven over 6 2/3 innings against these same Tigers last time out.

Grant Holmes ($6,100) and Will Warren ($6,000) are viable low-salary dart throws versus the San Francisco Giants and Chicago White Sox, respectively. Between the two, Warren has the edge for me. He's logged a 3.91 xFIP this year at Triple-A (95 2/3 innings), and the matchup is about as good as it gets.

Others to Consider

• Ronel Blanco ($10,300 at Tampa Bay Rays) - Blanco has been pretty dang good this year and can get punchouts (13.4% swinging-strike rate). I don't love his matchup as much as I like Ray's. With that said, he'll likely be less popular than Ray, setting up Blanco to be an intriguing GPP option.
• Jose Berrios ($9,700 at Los Angeles Angels) - The matchup is there, making Berrios an interesting pivot off Woo. Unfortunately, Berrios has been pretty bad lately, sporting a 4.93 xFIP across his last 27 2/3 innings.

Stacks to Target

• New York Yankees (5.69 implied total) -- Outside of Juan Soto ($4,400) on Tuesday, Yankees stacks have faceplanted the past two nights. They're in a blow-up spot again versus Davis Martin, and I doubt the past two games will scare away the masses. Aside from Soto and Aaron Judge ($4,800) -- who are the top two sticks by our MLB DFS projections -- Alex Verdugo ($2,800) is an appealing bat as a modest-salaried leadoff hitter.
• Philadelphia Phillies (5.10) -- The implied total puts Philly on the stacking radar, but I'm not in love with them in a clash with Edward Cabrera, a righty who owns a 28.1% K rate. If the Phillies are going to be chalky, I'll be underweight on them.
• Cincinnati Reds (4.66) -- Cincy is my favorite non-Yankees stack today. They're at their hitter-friendly home park versus Kyle Gibson. Lefties are mauling Gibson to the tune of a .354 wOBA, 38.3% fly-ball rate and 1.30 homers per nine innings. Hello, Elly De La Cruz ($4,000).
