3 NHL Player Prop Bets to Target on Monday 10/16/23

Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing numberFire's projections as a guide, here are some NHL player props bets that look appealing via the NHL odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Please note that betting lines and numberFire's projections may change throughout the day after this article is published. Also, the weather may be an issue in some locations.

Dylan Larkin To Score a Goal (+150)/
Dylan Larkin To Record 4+ Shots (+120)

The Detroit Red Wings have a 3.41 implied goal total on the road to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets, which is a great matchup for scoring.

High-volume shooters are the ones to trust when it comes to NHL player props. Between shot props and goals, you need to fire the puck at the net to offer value.

That is what we have with Dylan Larkin, the center on the top forward line and the first power-play for the Red Wings. Larkin is coming off of back-to-back 30-goal seasons and is absolutely a player we can trust.

Through two games this year, Larkin has a whopping 13 shots on goal but no goals. If you told me he had 8 shots on goal through two games I'd be pumped, so having 13 shots is amazing.

He's up against the Blue Jackets, who are allowing an 81.60 Corsi Against (Total Shot Attempts Allowed) per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is last in the league.

While this is just a two-game sample size for the Blue Jackets, this is truly where they should be as they finished as the second-worst team in the league last season. Columbus also allowed the most (3.43) Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations last year, giving us a great matchup to attack.

Larkin is a high-volume shooter and hasn't found the back of the net this season. Tonight's the night he changes that.

John Tavares To Score a Goal (+135)

Very similar to above, we want a good shooter with a good role in a good matchup.

That brings us to John Tavares the captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs, who have a slate-high 4.06 implied goal total against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Tavares is on the second forward line and the first power-play unit, coming in with five shots on goal but no goals through two games. The five shots are a bit modest for Tavares, but having averaged three shots on goal or higher in each of the last two seasons, I'm not worried about his potential volume.

They are up against the Blackhawks, who have allowed a 75.05 Corsi Against per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the fourth-worst in the league right now.

They're also allowing 2.70 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the 13th worst in the league. If we look at their Expected Goals Allowed (xGA), they are at 3.19, which is the seventh-worst in the league. The goals are going to start piling up against Chicago, a trend we want to jump on early.

The Blackhawks are going to be a defense we target throughout the season and tonight should be no different with an elite offense on the other side.
