3 NFL Player Prop Bets for Monday Night Football: Week 9, Chargers at Jets

Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy football on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing numberFire's projections as a guide, here are some NFL player props bets that look appealing.

Garrett Wilson Any Time Touchdown (+200)

The New York Jets play host to the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football to close out Week 9 of the NFL season.

A modest 40.5-point over/under with the road Chargers favored by 3.5 points is where things get going tonight, and there are plenty of props to consider.

Let's start with an any time touchdown from Garrett Wilson, the clear No. 1 receiver for New York.

This season, Wilson is playing on 90.5% of the snaps and running a route on 95.9% of dropbacks. That's led to a 33.5% target share, 50.2% air yards share, and 11.1 average depth of target (aDOT). Aside from the aDOT, all of those lead the team, but it doesn't stop there.

When we look at his red zone stats, we see that Wilson has a staggering 54.5% red zone target share, which is the highest on the team by a country mile. The next highest red zone target share sits with C.J. Uzomah at a modest 13.6%. Wilson is 40% higher than the next player on the Jets. If they are in the red zone and passing the ball, it's going to Wilson. Full stop.

Looking at the Chargers' defense, they have allowed the 13th-most (1,393) receiving yards and tied for the fifth-most (9) touchdowns allowed to opposing wide receivers this season.

Wilson hasn't scored a touchdown since Week 2, but still maintains a red zone target share at 50%. The man is due for a touchdown. He's simply too involved in the offense and has too good of a matchup tonight, it's that simple.

Zach Wilson Over 31.5 Passing Attempts (-112)

From one Jets' Wilson to the other, with over 31.5 passing attempts for Zach Wilson.

The Chargers' defense is the worst in the league against the pass. They are allowing opposing quarterbacks to throw for 297.4 passing yards per game and 38.1 passing attempts per game. They have been a complete disaster from top to bottom and have allowed opposing quarterbacks to go over this 31.5 passing attempt mark in five of their seven games this season.

The first few games of the season were rough for Wilson, but he has started to round into form and has crossed this mark in four of his last five games. That's because the Jets have a 60.75% pass play percentage, which is the seventh-highest in the league.

We should see the Jets lean on the passing game tonight, not only due to the matchup being great, but the running game may have a tough time getting going. For as bad as the Chargers are versus the pass, they are elite against the run, having allowed the fifth-fewest (524) rushing yards to running backs.

This sets the offense up for a passing-heavy game script, which should allow Wilson to hit over 31.5 passing attempts.

Quentin Johnston Under 31.5 Receiving Yards (-110)

With a convoluted role in the offense, under 31.5 receiving yards for Quentin Johnston is the spot to look.

The Chargers have been through it all this season when it comes to their wide receivers. It started in Week 3 when Mike Williams tore his ACL and was knocked out for the year. Yesterday, the Chargers put Josh Palmer on Injured Reserve and in a corresponding move, activated Jalen Guyton from Injured Reserve.

While Guyton hasn't played much this season, he's been with the team for four seasons and has some level of cadence with quarterback Justin Herbert.

With all of this going on, the rookie, Johnston has yet to make a big impact in the offense. On the season, he has a very low 8.5% target share, while playing on 40.7% of the snaps and running a route on 47.4% of dropbacks.

If we account for just the games since Mike Williams has been out, Johnston is only up at a 10.2% target share, while playing on 55.0% of the snaps and running a route on 65.5% of dropbacks.

He continues to play a small role in the offense and, while Palmer is out, Guyton is returning, which doesn't put Johnston in a spot for massive usage.

I say all of this and haven't even mentioned the fact the Jets' secondary is elite. They've allowed just 721 receiving yards to opposing wide receivers, which is the best in the league.

This is the most difficult matchup in the league for a player who doesn't play a big role in the offense.
