Little has gone right for the Atlanta Falcons this season. They started out 0-5 before firing head coach Dan Quinn and GM Thomas Dimitroff. They've earned a handful of wins to save them from being the worst team in the NFL, but it's clear that the team is destined for a shakeup next season, and that could mean letting key pieces go in order to enter a full rebuild.

Franchise QB and former MVP Matt Ryan is a prime trade candidate given a new regime will take over in Atlanta soon and likely want to start from scratch. Given this, here are three likely replacements for Ryan as the Falcons' starting quarterback.

3. Matt Schaub

Matt Schaub is not a sexy name, I know. At 39 years old and on an expiring deal, he may retire at the end of the year, too. However, he'd be the perfect stand-in at quarterback while the Falcons endure what will likely be a down year as they enter a rebuild and hope to land a premium draft pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He's spent the last four seasons in Atlanta and could set the tone for the team's culture as new talent comes in.

2. Mitchell Trubisky

Mitchell Trubisky has talent, but he's failed to be consistent with the Chicago Bears and it's hurt his perception around the league. A divorce between Trubisky and the Bears makes sense, and that allows the Falcons to take a chance on the 26-year-old QB. Atlanta will likely be a team building towards competing in a couple of years, rather than immediately, so why not take a flier on Trubisky and see what he can bring? If he looks like a legit starting QB they can build around, great, If he doesn't perform well and inadvertently helps them get a top 2022 pick, even better.

1. Mac Jones

Alabama quarterback Mac Jones continues to shoot up draft boards, and currently owning the No. 7 overall pick, Atlanta is in prime position to select their quarterback of the future in 2021. Jones resembles Ryan in his fondness for the pocket and limited running ability. While dual-threat QBs are all the rage in the NFL, Atlanta was able to build a top offense around Ryan and turn him into an MVP, so that should be of little concern. Jones has racked up 3,321 yards and 27 passing touchdowns while throwing just 3 interceptions in 10 games for the Crimson Tide this year. Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley would surely welcome catching passes from a fellow Alabama alum, and Jones is absolutely a quarterback the Falcons should consider with their top-10 pick.
