Thunder vs. Mavericks: NBA Prediction, Picks and Prop Bets (Oct. 28)

Thunder vs. Mavs Picks at a Glance

  • Thunder-Mavericks Under 229.5 (-105)
  • Cooper Flagg Under 7.5 Rebounds (-162)

The Oklahoma City Thunder and Dallas Mavericks meet Wednesday night in one of the final games on the NBA schedule, with both the game lines and player prop markets offering intriguing betting options.

Oklahoma City enters as a road favorite despite being very short-handed while Dallas will look to lean on its young core in a matchup against one of the league's strongest defensive teams.

Below, we'll break down our favorite Mavericks vs. Thunder player prop for Wednesday, October 28.

Thunder vs. Mavs NBA Picks, Props and Prediction

Thunder-Mavericks Under 229.5 (-105)

There are a lot of moving parts in this Oklahoma City Thunder-Dallas Mavericks matchup due to OKC’s injuries, and I like the under.

Oklahoma City has gone under the total in three of its first four games while Dallas has done the same.

That's a strong starting point for this pick, and both teams have enough defensive upside to keep this game from turning into a track meet.

OKC is without all of Chet Holmgren, Alex Caruso and Jalen Williams while Ajay Mitchell (ankle) is questionable. That adds plenty of volatility to this game, but even without those players, this is a strong Thunder squad, one that can still be stout defensively.

With both teams entering Wednesday at 1-3 to the over, I prefer the under.

Cooper Flagg Under 7.5 Rebounds (-162)

Cooper Flagg has been productive for the Mavs early this season, but his rebounding line looks a little high for tonight.

Flagg is averaging 5.3 rebounds through his first three games, and he has yet to clear 6.5 rebounds this season. He has also gone over this number in only 4 of his last 10 games dating back to last season.

The matchup doesn't make the over especially appealing, either. Oklahoma City has opened the season playing at an elite level defensively, and its frontcourt — even without Chet — has enough size and athleticism to limit easy rebounding opportunities.

Flagg's all-around role gives him plenty of paths to production, but seven rebounds is a relatively aggressive threshold given his early-season numbers. I'll take the under.

NBA Betting Frequently Asked Questions

What is the point spread in NBA betting?

The point spread is a handicap applied to the favored team to level the playing field. For example, if the Lakers are -6.5 against the Celtics, the Lakers must win by 7 or more points for a bet on them to pay out. A bet on the Celtics wins if Boston wins outright or loses by 6 points or fewer.

What does the moneyline mean in NBA betting?

A moneyline bet is a straight-up wager on which team wins — no spread involved. Odds use American format: a favorite is listed with a minus sign (e.g., -180), meaning a wager of $180 would win $100. An underdog carries a plus sign (e.g., +155), meaning a $100 bet would return $155 profit.

What is an over/under (total) bet in the NBA?

FanDuel will set a projected combined score for both teams. You bet whether the actual total points will go Over or Under that number. For example, if the total is 224.5, an Over bet wins if both teams combine for 225 or more points.

What are NBA player props?

Player prop bets focus on individual statistical performances rather than game outcomes. Common NBA props include points scored, rebounds, assists, three-pointers made, steals, and combined stat lines (e.g., Points + Rebounds + Assists). You bet whether the player goes Over or Under the sportsbook's posted line.
