The San Francisco 49ers went all-in during the 2021 NFL Draft and selected North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance with the No. 3 overall pick. Even if he doesn't start immediately, Lance was taken to be their franchise quarterback and San Francisco needs to surround him with talent.

The remaining free agent class isn't as picked apart as some people think and there is still a lot of unsigned players out there. With that being said, here are three free agents the 49ers should target.

1. Golden Tate, WR

One area on the roster that features almost no depth for the 49ers is at the wide receiver spot. While starters Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk look poised to have monster seasons, San Francisco's third option is currently Richie James or Travis Benjamin. Bringing in a veteran pass-catcher like Golden Tate would give Lance a safe security blanket to rely on. Prior to 2020, Tate had posted at least 650 receiving yards in eight consecutive seasons. He has also scored 8 touchdowns over his last 23 games played. He may not be the flashy player he once was, but Tate is still a productive WR.

2. Trai Turner, OG

The 49ers took Notre Dame offensive lineman Aaron Banks in the second round to be the starter at right guard, but a lot of exerts considered the pick to be a bit of a reach. Banks may need some time to adjust to an NFL level of play and San Francisco would be smart to sign Trai Turner because of that. Turner definitely had a down year with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2020, but he has seven years of NFL experience and has made the Pro Bowl five times. He knows what it takes to get the job done and could help protect Lance in the pocket.

3. Trey Burton, TE

Yes, the 49ers have an all-pro caliber starting tight end in George Kittle. However, he missed eight games last season and with backup Jordan Reed retiring, it's now a position of need. Backups Ross Dwelley and Charlie Woerner are not receiving threats by any means, but San Francisco could sign Trey Burton to take on that role. Burton is averaging 9.6 yards per reception in his career and has scored 14 touchdowns over the last four seasons. He could quickly become an underrated red zone threat for Lance and give the 49ers a great backup in case Kittle gets hurt.
