10 Best Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Adds Heading Into NFL Week 4

Best Week 4 Waiver Wire Adds at a Glance

  • Ollie Gordon II, RB, Miami Dolphins
  • Kenyon Sadiq, TE, New York Jets
  • Braelon Allen, RB, New York Jets

The fantasy football waiver wire can make a major difference each week, especially when injuries and changing roles create new opportunities across the NFL.

We saw a lot of that play out in Week 3.

With that in mind, here are some of the best additions to have on your radar heading into Week 4.

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups

Ollie Gordon II, RB, Miami Dolphins

Ollie Gordon II is my early No. 1 add after De'Von Achane suffered a knee injury that coach Jeff Hafley said did not sound “optimistic.” With Jaylen Wright also inactive Sunday, Gordon took over and finished with 17 carries for 41 yards and a touchdown plus 3 catches for 14 yards; he was just 2% rostered on Yahoo entering the game.

Braelon Allen, RB, New York Jets

Breece Hall was ruled out with a thigh injury, and Braelon Allen handled all of the New York Jets' backfield work on their final two drives, touching the ball six times during that stretch. Allen entered Sunday only 18% rostered on Yahoo, and he could jump immediately into the RB2 conversation if Hall misses Week 4 against the Chicago Bears.

Kenyon Sadiq, TE, New York Jets

Sticking with the Jets, their rookie tight end erupted for 7 catches, 105 yards and a touchdown on 8 targets against the Detroit Lions. Mason Taylor was out with a thumb injury, while the Jets were also without Adonai Mitchell and Omar Cooper Jr.; Given what he’s shown through three weeks and the kind of draft capital (16th overall) he has working for him, Kenyon Sadiq could be Gang Green’s number-two pass-catcher behind Garrett Wilson.

Tyler Shough, QB, New Orleans Saints

Tyler Shough continues to make a strong case as a weekly fantasy starter in one-QB formats, completing 29 of 42 attempts for 255 yards and 4 touchdowns against the Las Vegas Raiders. He entered Week 3 at 48% rostered on Yahoo, so he should be a priority add wherever he remains available, particularly with the Saints playing at a fast pace under Kellen Moore.

Mack Hollins, WR, New England Patriots

Hollins caught 6 of 9 targets for 87 yards Sunday and comfortably led the New England Patriots in both targets and receiving yards. A.J. Brown is already on IR with a high-ankle sprain, so Hollins' expanded route and target opportunity has a chance to stick for a bit.

Oronde Gadsden II, TE, Los Angeles Chargers

Oronde Gadsden‘s opportunity is attractive even if his Week 3 box score shows a goose egg in the catches column. David Njoku is on IR and Charlie Kolar underwent forearm surgery, leaving Gadsden as the Chargers' primary healthy tight end. He’s flashed some big-play ability last year.

Jordan Watkins, WR, San Francisco 49ers

Jordan Watkins caught both of his targets for 60 yards after Mike Evans left Sunday's game with a rib injury, and Evans is scheduled for further evaluation Monday. The San Francisco 49ers were already without Demarcus Robinson and De'Zhaun Stribling, so Watkins is a worthwhile upside stash even though Khadarel Hodge and Jacob Cowing played more snaps Sunday.

Tre Tucker, WR, Las Vegas Raiders

Tre Tucker followed his 5-catch, 119-yard, 1-touchdown Week 2 with another 4 receptions for 43 yards this past Sunday, and his path to snaps became even clearer when Jack Bech suffered a broken forearm that will send him to IR. Tucker was 29% rostered on Yahoo entering Week 3, and while Brock Bowers‘ return limits the target ceiling, Tucker is increasingly difficult to leave on waivers.

Kendre Miller, RB, New Orleans Saints

This is one of the more speculative injury-driven claims and fits better for deep leagues. Travis Etienne appeared to aggravate his existing hamstring issue Sunday after carrying 13 times for 57 yards. Alvin Kamara would obviously be the first beneficiary if Etienne sits — and Kamara is available in slightly more than half of Yahoo league — but Miller becomes a worthwhile bench stash in deeper leagues given that it seems like the New Orleans Saints haven’t wanted to use Kamara too much on the ground this campaign.

Buffalo Bills D/ST

Drake Maye is off to a miserable start this season, turning the ball over seven times through three games. The Buffalo D/ST hasn’t done much in fantasy through three weeks, but they’re a quality streaming play in Week 4 thanks to the date with a struggling Maye.

Fantasy Football Waivers FAQ

What is the waiver wire in fantasy football?

The waiver wire is where fantasy managers can add players who are not currently on a roster in their league. It is one of the best ways to improve your team during the season, especially when injuries, role changes, and breakout performances create new opportunities.

When should I make waiver wire claims?

Most leagues process waivers once or twice per week, so it is important to check your league's settings. Tuesday night and Wednesday morning are common waiver periods, but managers should also monitor news throughout the week for late-breaking opportunities.

Which positions should I prioritize on the waiver wire?

Running backs and wide receivers with expanding roles are usually the most valuable waiver targets. Quarterbacks — especially in two-QB formats — tight ends, and defenses can also be strong additions when they have favorable upcoming matchups.

How much FAAB should I spend on a waiver wire player?

FAAB spending should depend on a player's projected role, upside, your FAAB budget and how badly your roster needs help. It is usually worth being more aggressive for a player who could become a weekly starter than for a short-term streaming option.
