The No. 3-seed LSU Tigers went into their second-round NCAA Tournament matchup on Saturday as a 2.5-point favorite over the No. 6-seeded Maryland Terrapins, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

The Tigers opened up the game and quickly got out to a comfortable lead, but the second half was a different story. Maryland made a defensive shift to a 2-3 zone and LSU couldn't buy a bucket.

Maryland went on an 11-1 run and, all of a sudden, the game was tied heading into the final two minutes. After trading buckets, the Tigers got the ball back with 20 seconds on the clock and the score tied with a chance to win it.

Then, this happened.

Tremont Williams made a last-second layup to give LSU a 2-point lead, enough for a 69-67 win and a ticket to the Sweet 16. While many bettors needed a 3-pointer to cover their spread, the Tigers didn't grant them their wish.

The Tigers won a moneyline bet, but left spread bettors a half-point short of covering.

I suppose that's the one consolation Maryland fans have. They might not have won, but at least they covered.
